As the story goes, Medusa was a priestess at Athena's temple. She had long beautiful hair. One day, Poseidon violently assaults her. Athena punishes Medusa by turning her into the monstrous Gorgon, turning her lustrous hair into venomous snakes. 

I think women everywhere are intimately familiar with this mythology. Medusa is the femininity that is objectified, denigrated and punished for, and by, the patriarchy. She represents that parts of ourselves, of our innate femininity, that has become so shadowed that it seems terrifying. Athena on the other hand represents the woman who became the father's daughter to survive the world. She is the conscious parts of ourselves that continue to punish the embodied feminine potentiating within us through negative self-talk, criticism and comparison. Poseidon, god of the sea, is representative of the force with which we feel the effects of patriarchy, as women, in an embodied, earthy sense as all as in a watery, emotional, soulful way. 

Pharmakon calls on us to reclaim our conscious faculties, that of wisdom and authority, by facing the monstrous parts of ourselves. This oil allows us to hold ourselves tenderly as we begin to integrate our bodies with our minds, to see ourselves as whole and worthy in our own right. It's a container meant to hold us as we heal our relationship to our own femininity, other women, and reawaken to the divine feminine around which to orient ourselves. 

The Practical

This oil is scented with a blend of Frankincense, Copaiba and Peru Balsam essential oils, filled with healing vibes from scent to herbs. With mild analgesic properties due to the essential oil blend, this oil may help relieve mild muscles aches and tension. Pharamakon helps us tend to the bidirectional relationship between our minds and bodies. It reminds us that every part of ourselves is worthy of love, especially the parts of ourselves we have shunned. Sometimes the medicine we most need lies within our darkest shadows.
