When an Apollo insinuates Eros doesn't deserve a "man's weapon" (his bow), Eros swore to get back at Apollo. He flies to vantage point and draws two arrows; one to spark love and another to dispel it. From high up on the mountain, Eros shoots Apollo with the golden arrow of love and aims the heavy, lead arrow of unrequited love at Daphne, a  nymph. When Apollos eyes meets Daphne, he falls obsessively in love, pursuing her despite her objections and rejection. Daphne begins to evade, running as fast as she can from Apollo until she begins to tire. As she starts feeling Apollo's breath on her shoulder, she desperately calls out to her father, the river god Peneus, pleading with him to save her from a fate she does not choose. Peneus compassionately aids his daughter by turning her into a laurel tree, the first laurel. 

Unconditional self-love and acceptance are what we all deserve, especially when life feels overwhelming, unpredictable and relentless (read: patriarchal). This mythology reminds us that agency and autonomy are made accessible when we treat ourselves with compassion. When we are inevitably forced to make, or are compelled to accept, hard things many of us get harsher with ourselves. The inner critic rages and makes us second guess what we know is right. Daphne shows us that unconditional love and acceptance of our fates is transformative. Through her radical autonomy, Daphne shows us that we create ourselves and in so doing define what we value. And when we value ourselves, we can live a meaningful life even if as a tree. 

This oil is a ritual of loving your weird, goofy, and imperfect self, always and no matter what. 

The Practical

Amor Fati is a rosy, fresh and light blend in a golden jojoba base. It's an oil you can carry with you to take a moment to yourself whenever and wherever you need a bit more love and presence. It's also good for your cuticles!
